EU and Gates Foundation Mobilise €7.7 Billion for Global Vaccination at Gavi 6.0 Summit

GHealth News – On 25 June 2025, the European Union and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation co-hosted the Gavi 6.0 High-Level Pledging Summit in Brussels, with strong backing from Gavi donors and implementing countries. The event gathered global leaders from governments, international organisations, vaccine manufacturers, civil society, and the private sector to secure funding for global immunisation efforts.

The summit raised over €7.7 billion in pledges toward Gavi’s €10.2 billion target for 2026–2030. Team Europe composed of the EU and its Member States reaffirmed its leadership role with a collective pledge exceeding €2 billion, including €360 million from the European Commission.

In addition to donor pledges, the summit secured:

  • €3.8 billion in complementary financing from development finance institutions
  • Up to €170.6 million in cost savings from vaccine producers for Gavi-supported programmes
  • Over €127 million from private sector initiatives focused on vaccine delivery

Gavi’s strategic priorities for 2026–2030 include expanding access to routine immunisation, building emergency vaccine stockpiles, improving health system readiness for future outbreaks, and strengthening local vaccine manufacturing through regional partnerships.

The summit builds on the momentum from the Gavi 6.0 Investment Opportunity launch in June 2024 in Paris, which raised $2.4 billion. The EU, a long-standing partner of Gavi, has contributed more than €3.2 billion since 2003, with Team Europe providing over €6.5 billion during the Gavi 5.0 period (2021–2025).
